Only a couple days until we hit Winter, and before the really cold and rainy season gets serious, it's a good idea to get your gutters cleaned out.  It's one of the more annoying things when you are sitting in your nice warm house and looking out while it is bucketing down, and then you notice that water is overflowing from your gutters because they are blocked.  Not much fun to go out and get wet and fix it then, so now is the time to schedule a quick check and clean of your gutters.

You can get gutter cleaning scoops quite cheaply from your local hardware, which makes it quite easy to clean out your gutters.  Make sure you take a bucket up with you as well, to put the leaf matter in.  This is great for your garden or compost, so don't throw it in the bin.

Be careful where you put your ladder, usually around your home there can be uneven spots where it can be dangerous to rest your ladder, make sure your ladder is solidly grounded, and if not, try and get a helper to stabilise your ladder while cleaning.

If you clean out your gutters regularly, if you have a water tank, it means that the water going into your tank will be MUCH cleaner.  This means that you will not have to clean out your tank as often.

It can also save you money to have clean gutters.  If you don't clean regularly, the guttering can get damaged or bent.  If your guttering is not working the way it should, water can be going where you don't want it, and can damage your roof, and can undermine pavers and other landscaping features.

If you don't want to clean your gutters yourself, there are many companies that can do this for you, just do a quick search in your local area.
