Sounds like a good invention to help use your water wisely for your garden!

"A controller installed on the resident’s premises communicates with the servers via WiFi. It relays via underground wires a signal to open or close a set of valves controlling the sprinklers. That signal is based on the servers’ calculated watering schedule. The novelty of Hydrawise is in the servers’ watering algorithms, Ryan says.

The system’s more sophisticated option factors in variables such as plant type, soil type and plant root depth, and weather conditions such as solar radiation, temperature, rainfall and wind to estimate soil moisture levels and work out when to trigger watering......"
