Interesting article about how much water is needed for irrigation, depending on when crops are sown.

"Encouraging irrigation water budgeting, Ms Brown said the first irrigation used three to four times more water than subsequent ones. For ­example, the first could require 1-2 ML/ha with subsequent using about 0.5ML/ha. Rain and hot weather would alter ­irrigation requirements as well."
