Buy your Poly Water Tanks from a reputable company

Over the last five years many poly water tank companies have opened their doors, made a quick buck and left the industry, making their promises and guarantees invalid.  A little harsh?  From the point of view of a company who is coming up to 27 years in the industry, especially this year we have heard of quite a few tank companies folding.

When buying a poly water tank, price is always an important reason to buy, but it is not the only reason.  A good price and a good solid reputation is what you need to look for.  The old adage “you get what you pay for” is very much the case with poly water tanks.   You also need to have confidence that the company will be around to service your guarantee in future years.  Anyone can promise a great guarantee, but it means nothing if the company goes bust.

Here is a recent example of a customer who has purchased a cheap imported water tank, and his guarantee is now worthless.

WHEN Kilsyth retiree Tom Skelly spent $2500 on a rainwater tank he thought it was an investment in the future.

But less than a year after purchase the tank started leaking, and now its replacement has also sprung a leak.

And the supplier isn't paying up.

"What am I going to do with the tank now?" Mr Skelly asked.

He said he had been phoning provider GGN Urban Solutions daily but no one was taking his calls.

Below is a recent example of what can happen if you pick a "fly-by-night" company for a cheap tank:

Police shut down website following scam

The Fair Trading Department and police are chasing a scam involving the sale of water tanks in New South Wales.

The company, Columbus Sales, promises a bonus TV and DVD player to those who buy a water tank at a cost of more than two thousand dollars.

The Deputy Commissioner of New South Wales Fair Trading Steve Griffin said advertisements for the scam appeared in the Riverina before Christmas and 16 people have since complained their tank never arrived.

"The website's have been closed down, so we don't think that any further people would come into contact with this group," said Mr Griffin.  "We've gone to their offices and they've been vacated.

"And it would appear that these people are very itinerant and are on the move, so we'd just be trying to track them down to try to prevent them from starting this scam up again elsewhere."

Mr Griffin said people can do their own research into whether a company is above board.  You need to be able to check that the vendor is legitimate," he said.

"And the only way you're going to do that is to get the information from the web site, usually under the banner of 'contact us'. They'll have an address and phone number that you should then check. Ring up that phone number and check that they are, actually are legitimate."

Mr Griffin wants victims to contact his department.  "If they want to lodge a complaint they should do so and they can do so by going to our website," he said.

"Those people who have paid money by credit card, we want them to know too that they should contact their credit card company and seek a reversal as soon as possible and hopefully they can get that refund and not be out of pocket."
